The Alps is one of the great mountain ranges of Europe. It stretches form Austria and Slovenia in the east to Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Italy and France in the west. Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps at 4,807 meters, stands on the French-Italian border. Many major rivers in Europe flow from the Alps, such as the Rhone, the Rhine, and the tributaries of both the Danube and the Po. The melting of the glaciers on lower parts of the Alps forms many beautiful lakes.
